Guidelines and procedures according to PIPEDA
The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act stipulates
that organizations operating in Canada should develop guidelines and
procedures to define minimum and maximum retention periods for personal
information.
When you have personal information that has been used to make a decision about an individual, you must keep it long enough to allow the individual to have access to it. When you have personal information that you no longer require, you should have procedures in place to destroy it.
